Ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI, Rockstar Games is giving the original Red Dead Redemption some time under the spotlight with newer machinery. The studio previously launched a remastered version for the PC, finally breaking its exclusivity to older consoles. Now, in less than a month, the gunslinging RPG is coming to even more modern consoles.

Red Dead Redemption is seen as one of the most important RPGs in history. Besides its tragic story, the game introduced Rockstar’s iconic open-world formula to a setting that, at the time, hadn’t been portrayed adequately in games. The series has since spawned an equally impressive sequel for the PlayStation 4 generation.

On December 2, Rockstar Games is bringing the original Red Dead Redemption, along with spinoff DLC Undead Nightmare, to more consoles. After beginning its remastered stint for PC, the game is now coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and mobile devices.

The version for modern consoles will get the same 60fps treatment as its counterpart on PC. It will also support HDR. Meanwhile, the Switch 2 version gets support for DLSS and mouse controls.

Importantly, those who already own the original game on older consoles (via backwards compatibility on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch) will get a free upgrade to the remastered version.

For mobile, the game will have an ergonomic control system. Also, Netflix subscribers will get the game for free with their subscription.

If you have yet to play one of the most important titles of the past two decades, now is your chance to enjoy the experience on newer hardware.
