The St George Illawarra Dragons have continued their pursuit of a stronger backline in 2026, welcoming an explosive young flyer into their ranks ahead of next year.

Reported by Zero Tackle earlier this month, the Dragons have confirmed the signing of promising outside back Setu Tu from the New Zealand Warriors.

Tu will join the Red V on a development contract for the 2026 season, before being elevated to the club’s Top 30 squad in 2027.

The 27-year-old has been a standout performer for the Warriors’ Knock-On Effect NSW Cup side in recent years, playing a key role in their premiership-winning campaign this season.

He scored 13 tries in 14 appearances, averaging more than 100 run metres per game.

Head coach Shane Flanagan welcomed the addition, praising Tu’s athleticism and versatility.

“He’s elusive, athletic, robust — he ticks a lot of boxes for us,” Flanagan said in a club statement.

“He’s good in the air, plays with a lot of confidence and is a genuine try-scorer.”

Flanagan admitted Tu’s ability to cover multiple positions will make him an asset at the Red V.

“His versatility across the backline will add valuable depth to our squad,” he said.

“We look forward to him joining the club for a big preseason.”

Tu’s arrival continues the Dragons’ focus on strengthening their backline depth heading into 2026, with the club looking to build a mix of experience and emerging talent under Flanagan’s leadership.
