ForbesNYT Connections Hints And Answers Explained For Monday, December 1 (#904)By Kris Holt

Hey there, Connectors! I hope your week’s off to a great start.

I was craving a bagel the other day. Not just any bagel. One from the place that, for my money, makes the best bagels in the world. There are two particularly famous bagel places here in Montreal and there’s a bit of a playful feud between fans of each side. I could have gone to a nearby grocery store to pick up some bagels. But they would have been from the other place. And I can’t do that to myself.

So, I ordered a bunch from my regular haunt. I figured I may as well order the varieties I like – plain and blueberry – in bulk so I could freeze some and have a stash for a while.

However, the store decided to toss in some freebies. Half a dozen in total. Four were of a variety I’d never tried before.

Friends, I have lived in this city for over a decade. I am so mad at myself for never having tried this bagel, which is made with chocolate and orange zest. It’s absolutely delicious. So much so that any thoughts I’d ever had about moving away evaporated with my first bite. How could I ever leave this wonderful city? How could I distance myself from this delicacy?

I’m a big proponent of sticking to what works after you find something you like that does the job. Anything that reduces the number of decisions I have to make is a win in my book. At this point, most of my wardrobe is from the same clothing brand. But this chocolate bagel reminded me that it’s worth trying new things sometimes.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Tuesday, December 2 are coming right up. Let’s get rolling!

NYT Connections – How To Play

Connections is a free New York Times daily word game that you can play on the NYT’s website or Games app. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the Connections archive, which includes every previous game.

Connections presents you with a grid of 16 words (sometimes phrases, symbols or numbers). The aim is to arrange them into four groups of four. You don’t know how they hit together or what the category for each group is: that’s what you have to figure out.

There’s only one correct solution and there are often red herrings. You can guess incorrectly three times. A fourth wrong guess, and it’s game over.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to deduce, followed by blue, green and purple. Often, the yellow and green groups have synonyms, the blues have cultural references and the purples have some kind of wordplay involved. But this is not a hard and fast rule. Be ready for curveballs – part of the fun of Connections is in how the NYT shakes things up to keep you on your toes.

As with Wordle and similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends using an emoji-based grid. The game tracks your progress too.

Many players take pride in having long win streaks or getting a reverse rainbow – correctly guessing the purple, blue, green and yellow groups in that order with no mistakes. That adds an extra little challenge.

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your last chance to look away.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are…

🟨 Yellow group — approximate (BALLPARK, BROAD, GENERAL, ROUGH)🟩 Green group — mild oaths (FRICK, FUDGE, SHOOT, SUGAR)🟦 Blue group — MLB player (ANGEL, MET, RAY, ROYAL)🟪 Purple group — family member nickname plus a letter (BROW, DADA, MOMA, SISI)

The first thing that sprang to mind today was museums, or New York museums, with MOMA (The Museum of Modern Art) and MET (The Metropolitan Museum of Art) on the grid. I didn’t immediately see what could go with them, though, so I turned my attention elsewhere.

FUDGE and SHOOT were my entry points for the greens. No trouble there.

I then realized that ANGEL and RAY could be players on baseball teams. In that case, MET and ROYAL went with those. That let me lock down the blues.

From there, I was able to clock the yellows. Quite the fun Easter egg for the blues with BALLPARK there. However, I slid through the purples first. I recognized that connection just before submitting the group.

It’s always nice to have a perfect game, and I got one of those to take my winning streak up to 276.

How did you get on today? Here’s my grid:

P.S. I’m not a big Radiohead fan, but I’ve always loved their song “Just.” As a lifelong self-saboteur, it’s one that resonates with me. It popped into my head the other day so I’m sharing it here. The video is good too:

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Be kind to yourself and each other! Call someone you love!
