Jenna Fischer remade the photo she took last holiday season while undergoing breast cancer treatment

December marks two years since her diagnosis and she said cancer anniversaries inspire her to reflect on how far she’s come

The actress said she’s thankful to be cancer-free and grateful that she’s been able to spend the year working and doing what she loves

Jenna Fischer is reflecting on how far she’s come two years after her breast cancer diagnosis.

On Monday, Dec. 1, The Office alum shared an Instagram photo from her hotel room while in St. Louis for Thanksgiving. Remaking the photo she took during last holiday season, the actress sat in the same chair, wearing the same white robe and drinking from a coffee mug.

The 51-year-old shared how thankful she is after last year’s photo was taken during her cancer treatment.

“One year later. Same hotel. Longer hair,” she wrote in the caption. “It was exactly 2 years ago in December 2023 that I got the news I had breast cancer. All of my diagnosis and treatment dates are burned into my brain. These ‘anniversaries’ inspire reflection. I try to take a moment and sit with all that has happened.”

“I’m thankful for so many things…health, family, our crazy pets that make us laugh. I’m also very grateful for working,” she continued. “While 2024 was all about cancer treatments, 2025 has been a creative adventure.”

Fischer said she spent the majority of 2024 in a chair in her living room, but she’s gotten to travel and expand her career throughout 2025.

“Acting again has fed my soul. And, getting to do my podcast Office Ladies each week with my BFF Angela Kinsey is the constant,” she added. “When I got my diagnosis I wondered if I’d ever be able to work again. So, this past year filled with work and artistic growth has been so meaningful.”

“Most of all I’m thankful to be cancer free. I’m grateful every time I have a new scan and I get that news. (My pink sisters know the anxiety that comes with those scans),” she continued. “Sending my love to anyone battling a health issue right now. And to everyone else, please don’t skip your mammograms, colonoscopies and skin checks. Happy belated Thanksgiving.”

Fischer first revealed she was diagnosed with stage 1 triple-positive breast cancer in October 2024. She said on Today that a year prior, she went in for her “annoying” routine mammogram appointment that she had been “putting off.”

After a month of follow-up tests and a biopsy, Fischer was diagnosed with the rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy in January 2024 to remove the tumor, which was luckily caught early and hadn’t spread.

The actress underwent 12 rounds of chemo, three weeks of radiation, and was then treated with infusions of two other medications.

Fischer, who is cancer-free, has since been sharing small updates about her journey on social media and encouraging others to stay on top of routine screenings.

“If I had waited six months longer, things could have been much worse,” she said. “It could have spread. Seeing women post photos of their mammogram appointments on Instagram needled me into setting my own (which I was late for). I’m so glad I did. Consider this your kick in the butt to get it done.”
