Delulu. Rizz. Sigma. Every now and then a word, phrase or viral TikTok sound takes over social media and enters mainstream culture.

While some slang is easy enough to understand, others can make you feel so out of the loop that you question whether your Spotify age of 75 was actually correct.

This is exactly how many people feel about 6 7, a meme popularised by Gen Alpha which Ariana Grande has admitted she wants nothing to do with it.

The pop icon, who is famous for singing about another pair of numbers on her track “34+35”, has gone viral thanks to a clip of her reacting to the mention of 6 7 in an interview with Adam Sandler.

The pair were teamed up for Variety’s annual Actors on Actors series where Adam gushed about how much he enjoyed Wicked: For Good.

“The last sequence was like, six or seven shots where you had to be crying and feeling it,” he remarked.

Ariana appeared shocked at the unintentional mention of the cursed numbers and furrowed her brow as Adam continued speaking.

The split second reaction quickly became a viral meme, but Ariana has now insisted she has no idea what 6 7 is.

“I don’t know what this means!” she commented on Instagram. “I was reacting to him saying the amount of emotional scenes back to back! I’m scared what is 67.”

After opening the floodgates and receiving hundreds of replies from fans attempting to explain the trend, Ariana then jumped back on IG 10 minutes later to leave another comment.

“Actually I don’t want to know please I love you all enjoy,” she replied.

What does 6 7 actually mean?

So you’re probably wondering what 6 7 means and why it has such a chokehold on school students and social media users.

Well, it actually doesn’t have a defined meaning.

Its origins can be traced back to “Doot Doot (6 7)”, a song by US rapper Skrilla released in February 2025. Some listeners speculated that it referred to the police radio code “10-67”, which is used to notify of a death, or 67th Street in Skrilla’s hometown of Philadelphia.

However, the rapper later stated that he “never put an actual meaning on it” and had no intention of doing so. Cool cool cool.

Dictionary.com even admitted there was no clear meaning when it named 6 7 as its 2025 Word of the Year, instead describing it as “a burst of energy that spreads and connects people long before anyone agrees on what it actually means”.

Basically, people say 6 7 alongside an up-and-down hand motion and its meaning can be determined by the context and tone.

Does it mean ‘so so’? Is it a variation of 69? Or is it simply online gibberish designed to annoy parents and teachers?

Let’s be real. By the time a true meaning is defined, Gen Alpha will already be onto the next brain-rot trend.
