“It’s happening right now. We can still hear all the sirens and there are tonnes of emergency services.
“There’s still lots of smoke.”
Northern fire communications shift manager Ryan Geen confirmed they received multiple calls alerting them to the blaze just before 5pm.
He said three fire crews from around the North Shore were immediately sent and were on the scene within five minutes of the first call.
Another two fire crews have since been sent to the blaze, which had reached second-alarm severity by about 5.30pm.
“The fire is still not contained, but we don’t have any injuries,” he said.
Asked if anyone was inside the house when the fire broke out, Geen said he had not been told that information yet.
“We’ve confirmed that all people are out.”
A fire investigator has been called to the scene, Geen said, and it was too early to say what the cause may have been.
It is understood traffic congestion is building in the area and locals are being urged to avoid the area if possible.
“For obvious reasons, we’d want people to stay away from the Kaipātiki Rd Glenfield Rd intersection due to the smoke.”
Police are also at the scene.
