A routine KSRTC bus journey in Thiruvananthapuram turned contentious on Saturday evening after a film starring actor Dileep was screened onboard, triggering protests from passengers and forcing the crew to stop the show.

The incident occurred on a state-run KSRTC Superfast bus operating on the Thottipalam–Thiruvananthapuram route. Rashmi R Shekhar, a resident of Pathanamthitta travelling with her family, objected to the screening of Ee Parakkum Thalika, which features Dileep, an accused and later acquitted in the actress assault case.

As the journey began, the film was played on the bus. Rashmi’s son reacted strongly, remarking that the film was that of “this rascal”. Following this, Rashmi approached the conductor and demanded that the film be removed or replaced with another one.

Conductor rejects request, passengers back protest

The conductor initially refused to comply with the request. He issued a ticket to Vattappara, the next stop in Thiruvananthapuram, and asked Rashmi to get down there, despite her destination being Adoor in Pathanamthitta district.

The situation escalated when a majority of passengers supported Rashmi’s demand that Dileep’s film should not be screened on the bus. After sustained objections from passengers, the conductor was forced to stop the screening.

Not all passengers agreed with the protest. Some argued that there was nothing objectionable about screening a Dileep film, pointing out that the actor had been acquitted in the case.

Social media mirrors divide

Similar divisions are visible on social media platforms. Several users have expressed support for the survivor, citing reasons she has given for losing faith in the trial court after the verdict. At the same time, others have claimed that Dileep is being unnecessarily targeted.
