A legend in hip hop on more counts than one, Nas recently sat down with Joe Budden to discuss his latest album Light-Years in collaboration with DJ Premier. Speaking on his thought process on some of these records, and with Budden picking his brains as part of the exclusive interview, Nas revealed a detail that may be shocking for some.
Apparently, Nas reached out to Eminem for a feature on his song ‘Daughters,’ only to receive a respectful rejection on Em’s end. Shedding light on the situation, Nas revealed exactly how the conversation went down.
“Every record I do is not a battle,” said Nas. “I remember I had sent the song ‘Daughters’ to Eminem, and at the time, you know, he had spent so much time speaking on daughters, he was like, ‘Thank you, but I told my daughter I’m not doing any more songs directly about daughters at the moment because that’s a sensitive issue with all the music I put out.’”
Nas speaking on Eminem:
“Every record I do is not a battle… I remember I sent a record to Eminem & he thanked me but told his daughter he’s not doing any more songs directly about that subject at the moment”

“But he was like, ‘Thank you, ’cause most people wanna do songs where they’re battling me. It was refreshing to get a record where you’re not coming for me,’” he concluded, summarising Eminem’s thoughtful rejection. Now, while this means we don’t get to hear two legends together speaking about daughters, it goes on to show how much real relationships matter to two of the biggest names in the culture.
