As we reflect on 2025, we want to thank the producers, distributors, retailers, hospitality operators and industry partners who continue to shape and strengthen New Zealand’s liquor sector.
In a year marked by economic pressure, regulatory change and evolving consumer behaviour, the resilience, innovation and professionalism across the trade has been clear.
The New Zealand liquor industry in 2025 has continued its transition toward quality, balance and long-term sustainability.
While overall consumption remains moderated, the market has shown encouraging signs of adaptation. Premium beer, wine and spirits have remained resilient, with consumers increasingly choosing fewer, better occasions and trading up when they do drink.
The growth of no- and low-alcohol options has also become a permanent fixture, expanding choice and attracting new consumers into the category.
Innovation has been a defining theme across the year. Craft producers and established brands alike have invested in new formats, flavour profiles and local provenance, while RTDs and pre-batched cocktails continue to evolve to meet changing occasions.
On-premise venues have reaffirmed their role as engines of discovery and experience, while off-premise retail has adapted to regulatory and trading-hour changes with stronger ranging, service and customer engagement.
Despite ongoing cost pressures and policy challenges, the industry has shown a clear commitment to responsible retailing, collaboration and community impact. Partnerships between suppliers, retailers and hospitality operators have helped maintain momentum, support innovation and keep the sector moving forward.
Looking ahead, the industry enters the next year more focused, more agile and more aligned with consumer values than ever before.
The team at The Shout NZ and Intermedia NZ would like to take this opportunity to thank our clients, readers, contributors and operators for your continued support throughout the year. We look forward to bringing you the best up-to-date and relevant news and information next year.
Our Christmas wish is continued prosperity for the hospitality industry. Merry Christmas, happy holidays and we will see you in January! Cheers!
