Coronation Street fans have issued the same ‘missed’ verdict about Dee-Dee Bailey after the character dropped a bombshell about her plans to leave Weatherfield on her family.
Last month, viewers of the ITV soap saw Dee-Dee abruptly end her relationship with Ollie Driscoll, before confiding in her best friend Alya Nazir that she was planning to leave Weatherfield, having accepted a new job in Singapore.
It wasn’t until episodes aired this week that she dropped her exit bombshell on her family – dad Ed and brothers James and Michael – who were saddened by her exit plans, with James also heartbroken at losing baby Laila, having previously been lined up to be her guardian when his sister was going to give her up for adoption.
Upon hearing the news, James fumed: “A creche in Singapore, 24/7? You really think that’s in her best interests? What do they even speak out there?” Dee Dee reponded: “I have agonised over this. And yes, it’s the right thing for me, but I’m sorry, it is also the best thing for Laila. A job where I can make a difference!”
James hit back: “I was there for you. I was there for Laila. I provided a solution. This was your idea! This was always, always going to happen.” He then ended up heading into the toilets where he burst into tears, and text his secret lover, Carl Webster, to see if he wanted to meet up.

Dee-Dee’s exit is set to air in Friday’s (December 19) episode of Corrie, and ahead of the scenes, actress Channique Sterling-Brown appeared on ITV’s Lorraine on Thursday (December 18) and spoke about her decision to leave. She said: “I’ve been so privileged, I’ve enjoyed it so much. Dee-Dee is such a wonderful character.
“The beauty of a show like Coronation Street is you get thrown in head first. It was my first telly job and I’ve learnt so much, and I’ve worked with such incredible people. So, I’m really excited to get back in the industry.”
Host Lorraine Kelly then pointed out: “[Dee-Dee] is not killed off. She’s still there, and she’s always going to be a massive part of your life. And of course you want to go and spread your wings and do amazing things, but the door’s open, should you so wish, which is lovely.”
Channique responded: “It is. It’s very, very kind of the team to leave the door open for me, and I love that she still exists somewhere, living her best life.”
A clip of the interview was then posted to Lorraine’s Instagram account, and was reshared by Corrie’s social media team. And fans were quick to respond to their sadness at Dee-Dee leaving Weatherfield.
