Russell Brand is making his feelings about his ex-wife Katy Perry’s romantic partners known.
On Thursday, December 18, the comedian, 50, took the stage at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, criticizing the 41-year-old pop star’s boyfriend, Justin Trudeau.
“Look, Katy Perry, I was married to her. I love her still, and I’m glad that her mum is in the room to hear me say this,” the actor remarked, revealing that Perry’s mother, Mary, was attending the event. “Look, I was OK with Orlando Bloom, but Justin Trudeau? Come on, man! Don’t put me in a category with that guy! That globalist stooge.”

Brand and Perry were married in 2010, and the comedian infamously told her he was divorcing her via text message on New Year’s Eve 2011.
“At first when I met him he wanted an equal, and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they’re like, I can’t handle the equalness,” she told the Vogue of the marriage in 2013. “He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting.”
“I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day,” she added. “I let go and I was like: This isn’t because of me; this is beyond me. So I have moved on from that.”

In 2016, the “Firework” hitmaker began dating Bloom, and the pair were in an on-again, off-again relationship before eventually getting engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019. However, the former couple — who share a 5-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove — called off their engagement in June 2025.
Meanwhile, Perry and the former Canadian Prime Minister, 53, became romantically linked in July, when they were seen dining together in Montreal.
As Star previously reported, the couple celebrated Perry’s birthday together in Paris in October and traveled around Japan earlier this month as Perry performed there for her Lifetimes tour. The former American Idol judge shared some sweet snaps and videos from their trip on Instagram.
