Filmmaker Atlee delivered a deeply emotional and personal tribute to Thalapathy Vijay at the audio launch of Jana Nayagan in Malaysia, an event that has since gone viral across social media. Recalling a defining moment from his time as an assistant director, Atlee said, “When I was an assistant director, on my last day he called me and told me, ‘You are working really well. If you have a story, come and tell me.’ At that time, he had already completed 50 films. No big star would do that.”
The director went on to describe the relationship he shares with Vijay in personal terms, affectionately referring to him as “my brother, my Thalapathy,” a line that drew loud cheers from the audience and quickly became one of the most quoted moments of the night.
Expanding on their bond, Atlee used a life analogy that resonated strongly with fans in attendance. “In life, we meet three kinds of people, leaves who come and go, branches that break in a storm, and roots who never leave you. My Vijay brother is that root,” he said, prompting an emotional response from the crowd.
