Racing NSW stewards advised jockey Adam Hyeronimus to be mindful that ‘it doesn’t have to only be right, it also has to look right’ when winding up an inquiry into his ride on Vauban last week.

Stewards found Hyeronimus had no charge to answer when concluding their investigation into his Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes steer at Royal Randwick last Saturday.

The Group 1-winning rider was questioned last weekend and again on Wednesday at Canterbury Park in relation to Vauban losing the one-one spot in the mile feature with stablemate Sir Delius assuming the prized position.

Sir Delius had been three-wide and over racing when he was able to find himself in the position.

When summarising their reasons for decision, chief steward Tom Moxon said: “You need to be mindful in races, particularly in cases when you have got stablemates racing around you and any decision that you make obviously has that potential to be perceived that you are riding in a manner to benefit or advantage another horse.

NSW stewards question hoop for handing stablemate ‘ideal run’

“A previous chief steward (Ray Murrihy) always would say ‘It doesn’t have to only be right, it also has to look right’.”

Hyeronimus said he was understanding of the questions being asked about the ride but was solely focused on riding his mount.

“I’m out there riding the horse, not to (focus on) how it’s going to look on TV or the lateral view or a head on,” he said.
