Madelaine Petsch as final girl Maya brings her brutal cat-and-mouse game with masked pursuers to a final showdown in the trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 3, which dropped on Wednesday.
“After all these years, you’re the only one that survived. Why?” Gabriel Basso as Gregory asks Maya at one point in the teaser for the final film in director’s Renny Harlin’s The Strangers slasher horror trilogy, led by Petsch. “Does there have to be a why?” a rifle-toting Maya replies as she looks to turn the tables on the masked psychopaths in, as a synopsis from the producers states, “a brutal, full-circle reckoning of survival and revenge.”
The teaser for The Strangers: Chapter 3, besides featuring axe- and knife-wielding and other atrocities against local townspeople dying off, also promises to reveal the identities of the Man in the Mask, Dollface and Pin-Up Girl as they pursue their final victim.
“Everything I’ve ever cared about is gone,” Maya says at another point in the trailer as her patience gives way to her inner killer instinct being unleashed as she even dons a Pin Up Girl mask. The Strangers – Chapter 3, which also stars Ema Horvath, is directed by Harlin from a script written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, and is based on characters created by Bryan Bertino.
Courtney Solomon, Mark Canton, Gary Raskin, Alastair Burlingham and Charlie Dombek share the producer credits. The stand-alone trilogy from Harlin rebooted the franchise that began with 2008’s The Strangers, starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman.
Chapter One stayed true to Bryan Bertino’s horror classic, The Strangers, only reimagining a scenario where an analogue of Liv Tyler’s character, Petsch’s Maya, survives the central home invasion to set up Chapter Two and Three as she plays the main protagonist.
