Meghan Markle could use her Instagram account to extend an “olive branch” to Princess Catherine tomorrow. Catherine will mark her 44th birthday on January 9, with her likely set to celebrate with her husband and their three children at their home in Windsor.

In an interview with AceOdds, former royal butler Grant Harrold, who worked for King Charles between 2004 and 2011, shares that, although unlikely, Meghan could sent a public birthday message to her sister-in-law on Friday. He said: “Members of the royal family use their official social media accounts to mark family members’ birthdays, sharing photos and best wishes with their followers…”

Speaking of Meghan, he added: “However, with Meghan returning to social media in recent months – this could be the opportunity for an olive branch.

“Now that there is a rumour that relations are improving and that things are on the mend, it is possible that they could do that again, or they may not. It would send a very, very loud message if she posted her birthday wishes online.”

He added: “If they were to put something out publicly, everybody around the world would be saying, ‘Oh wow, they are speaking again.’ At the moment, while whatever is going on is still happening behind closed doors, I think it is unlikely that we will see any kind of public message right now.

Despite this, he does believe that Prince Harry and Meghan will send a message to Catherine in private.

He added: “However I absolutely believe that privately there will be birthday wishes, whether that is a phone call, a video call, birthday cards being sent, and possibly even gifts.”

Meghan made her surprise return to Instagram on New Year’s Day in 2025.

As well as using the platform to share updates of her brand, As Ever, and her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, the royal has also shared rare pictures of her children, six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lilibet.

Much like the royals, Meghan shared sweet messages to both of her children on their birthdays last year.
