The wonder of you – Elvis Aaron Presley – gone almost 50 years, and you can still draw a crowd.
In keeping with the phenomenon of Elvis – The King of Rock n’ Roll – and the adulation people have for him around the world, an annual Auckland event commemorating his birthday is held this Sunday in West Auckland.
Elvis in the Park always attracts Elvis fans from across the region and further afield and is staged by The Memories of Elvis Fan Club.
It’s at Cranwell Park, 20 Alderman Drive, Henderson, on January 11, 11am-5pm.
“We have six top Elvis entertainers to bring you Elvis’ music, where you can dance or just sit back and relax,” say organisers.
“Elvis fans from all over Auckland and beyond will be wearing their favourite costumes, as well as rock n’ roll clubs coming to dance and help us learn together why the 1950s onwards was previously known as the rock n’ roll era.
“Bring your chair, suntan lotion, water, hat, and whatever else you need to be comfortable.”
They say there will be food to buy and Elvis memorabilia on display and for sale, and many classic and hot rod cars on show.
Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi, in the United States, and died on August 16, 1977, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis, in Tennessee.
He was 42 and would have been 91 on Thursday.
