Magwala said these factors would likely prevent us from seeing the bright colour from six years ago.
In 2020, police in New Zealand were flooded with 111 calls about the “eerie” orange and yellow-tinted skies in Auckland.
Police said the calls to the 111 number were either to report that the haze was present or to ask why the sky had changed colour.
At least 130 homes have been lost so far this week as Victoria’s bushfire crisis continues for its second day.
A State of Disaster was declared overnight in 18 fire-affected local government areas and one alpine resort.
News.com.au reported that a total fire ban is now in place across the entire state.
