This is a big deal. We have known for some time that Samsung’s imminent Galaxy 26 Ultra, expected to release next month, will include a game-changing new upgrade. But now a new leak says it’s actually much better than expected.

This unique upgrade is the so-called privacy display, which combines hardware and software updates to dim or obscure the display when either something sensitive is on screen or the phone is being used in a crowded location.

Now tipster Ahmed Qwaider has posted on X to say he’s been hands-on and this will become the new phone’s “most important selling point.” The screen “was almost completely off,” he says and he was “amazed.” He also found that ”what’s even more surprising is that this feature doesn’t reduce the screen’s quality or colors.”

The quality of the obfuscation is critical. But what could be even more useful, as SamMobile points out, is Qwaider’s claim that this “can be set to turn on automatically when a certain app is opened. For example, you can set it to activate whenever you open WhatsApp so that unwanted people can’t check your messages. It may also be possible to let it activate automatically when you are outside your home or at specific times.”

“It’s truly amazing from Samsung,” Qwaider posted.

While the new phone will be lauded for many of its hardware and software updates, the privacy display could change the category. Large-screen, premium smartphones are scaling quickly in price, quietly becoming as expensive as good laptops or tablets. Apple’s forthcoming foldable iPhone will raise that bar yet again.

If it works as billed, the privacy display should become a must-have across the segment. Getting it first on the Galaxy S26 will appeal to many. Will it be enough to pull Apple users away from their iPhones? Probably not. But it certainly gives Samsung users a reason to upgrade and Pixel and other Android users something to consider.
