This week’s new heavy metal releases include demon-fronted metal, dreamy heaviness, masterful thrash, and more! To the metals…
Blanket – True Blue

Genre: Shoegaze/post-rock
Origin: NWUK
Label: Adventure Cat
Buy now on Bandcamp
Starting this week off with some spacy, indie washes of sounds. True Blue is such a great record to get lost in. Not a traditional “heavy” record, but if you’re a fan of Diamond Eyes-era Deftones or Hum, perhaps, you’ll want to check this out.
Edenbridge – Set The Dark On Fire

Genre: Symphonic/power metal
Origin: Linz, Upper Austria, Austria
Label: Steamhammer/SPV
Buy now on Bandcamp
Edenbridge’s first record in four years is another grand metal affair. Choruses are epic and the orchestrations are dramatic. It’s their first record with guitarist Sven Sevens, and what a name!
Kreator – Krushers Of The World

Genre: Thrash
Origin: Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
Label: Nuclear Blast
Buy now on Bandcamp
Like Edenbridge, Kreator are closing a four year gap since their last record. This is a thrashterpiece that shreds, pummels, and will probably throw your neck out (from all the headbanging, you see). There’s even is a cameo from fellow German Britta Görtz of Hiraes. If you wanna mix a little old school in with the new record, you can get one of the fancier versions of the record that includes recordings of old songs.
Ov Sulfur – Endless

Genre: Blackened/symphonic deathcore
Origin: Las Vegas, Nevada
Label: Century Media
Buy now on Bandcamp
Good heck, this is heavy and evil. Symphonics soar more than ever. Percussion hits harder than ever. It really is just everything they do well turned up.
Soen – Reliance

Genre: Progressive metal/rock
Origin: Sweden
Label: Silver Lining
Buy now from Soen
Album number seven from Soen is here to bum you out juuuuuust enough. You’re getting some big choruses and proggy grooves, but you’ll still get that Katatonia-esque sadness. This one welcomes bassist Stefan Stenberg back to the band, so if you’re feeling some familiar low-end, that’s why.
The Supervoid Choral Ensemble – EP1

Genre: Progressive metal/sludge
Origin: New York, New York
Label: Self-released
Buy now on Bandcamp
The duo of Vincent Roseboom and Ben Sharp returned earlier this week with a surprise EP of hypnotic sludgy goodness. Ben’s Cloudkicker antics certainly present but perhaps it’s Vincent that takes them into spacy realms. Fans of Vincent’s other outfit Gospel will be excited by the show-stealing guest spot from bandmate Jon Pastir on “Ernie Ball Worship.”
Vesseles – Home

Genre: Symphonic black metal
Origin: Santa Clara, California
Label: Self-released
Buy now on Bandcamp
Wrapping this week with the debut full record from Vesseles. This is cinematic, theatric, sinister, nerdy, and all around rad. This is a concept record of a demon thrust into the human world, so there’s a pretty intense allegory for feeling like an outsider here. Plus. the band seems to be fronted by an actual demon in Valira Pietrangelo (also of Mortal Filth and WarTroll), and that’s pretty neat.
