For the first time ever, Mary Jo Buttafuoco tells her story in her own words in the new Lifetime movie, “I Am Mary Jo Buttafuoco,” premiering on Saturday, January 17.

According to Lifetime’s description of the movie, Mary Jo Buttafuoco tells her story in her own words of when she was shot in the head by 17-year-old Amy Fisher, the mistress of her husband, Joey Buttafuoco in May 1992.

The .25 caliber bullet caused facial paralysis and hearing loss and remains lodged in her head.

Joey was sentenced to six months in jail for statutory rape and served four. Fisher pleaded guilty to reckless assault charges for the shooting and served seven years in prison.

Mary Jo, who remained a tabloid fixture, survived the harrowing attack and would spend decades recovering from traumatic injuries, emotional turmoil and public humiliation, according to A&E TV. She and Joey split in 2003, and Mary Jo found love again and wed at a Las Vegas chapel in 2012.
