The third installment of Monster draws inspiration from Ed Gein, the notorious murderer who influenced cinematic works like Psycho and The Silence of the Lambs. Netflix initially posted the trailer on social media with the tagline, ““You’re the one that can’t look away.” Charlie Hunnam takes the lead in Monster: The Ed Gein Story, which debuts on October 3.” The fresh trailer showcases Laurie Metcalf portraying Gein’s mother, while musician Addison Rae makes a brief appearance as one of Gein’s victims.
The official description for the season states: “Serial killer. Grave robber. Psycho. In the icy fields of rural Wisconsin during the 1950s, a sociable, soft-spoken recluse named Eddie Gein resided quietly on a dilapidated farm – concealing a house of horrors so shocking it would reshape the American nightmare. Motivated by solitude, madness, and an overwhelming fixation on his mother, Gein’s twisted crimes spawned a new type of monster that would haunt Hollywood for years. From Psycho to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to The Silence of the Lambs, Gein’s grim legacy inspired fictional monsters modeled after him and sparked a cultural fascination with the criminally deviant. Ed Gein didn’t merely impact a genre — he became the template for contemporary horror.”
Co-creator Brennan also serves as the writer for the series. He has directed two episodes of this season, while Max Winkler helmed six. The ensemble cast includes Tom Hollander, Suzanna Son, Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Lesley Manville, Joey Pollari, Charlie Hall, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill, Greyson K. Reilly, and Robin Weigert.

Hunnam is expected to reprise his role in the horror series as Borden’s father; Annette Bening and Warren Beatty’s daughter Ella is slated to take on the lead role of Lizzie.
