The end-credits cameo of Akshaye Khanna in Border 2 has been a talking point on social media, but the film’s makers have addressed speculation that the appearance was added at the last minute to capitalise on the success of his recent film Dhurandhar. Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh, released in theatres on January 23, 2026 and has drawn strong audience interest since its debut.
Border 2 makers clarify Akshaye Khanna’s cameo was always scripted: “It’s not like we added him after Dhurandhar was released”
The brief sequence in Border 2’s end credits features archival-style appearances by Khanna alongside Suniel Shetty, Puneet Issar and Sudesh Berry, representing characters who died in the original 1997 Border. Viewers quickly shared clips of the scene online, fuelling discussions about whether Khanna’s cameo was a reactive addition after Dhurandhar heightened attention around the actor.
While speaking to News18, co-producer Bhushan Kumar clarified that the cameo was not an opportunistic move. He explained, “You can’t make a film like that. It was already scripted. In fact, we shot his portion after Dhurandhar was released. The hysteria of the film and Akshaye was already there, but we never thought of [profiting from] it. It was never required in the script. It’s not like we added him after Dhurandhar was released.”

Director Anurag Singh echoed this, saying, “We shot his part on December 10-11. Akshaye is in Border 2 as a tribute to Border. He was a part of the story from the very beginning. And those who stay back after the film ends will get the golden nugget.”
Border 2 stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, and unfolds against the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
