Police confirmed the people involved were associated with two separate gangs.
“However, our investigation to date indicates this was not a gang-motivated attack,” Reeves said.
“This appears to be an isolated incident between specific individuals.”
Reeves said police want to be “absolutely clear” that “any form of retaliation will not be tolerated”.
“Anyone considering taking matters into their own hands should expect an immediate and firm response.”
Reeves said police understood incidents like this could be unsettling.
“[We] want to reassure you that there is no information to suggest any ongoing risk to the wider public,” she said.
“Our teams are maintaining a visible presence and continue to work closely with specialist units, intelligence staff and community partners to ensure your safety.”
Three men aged 19, 31 and 40 have been charged with aggravated wounding and aggravated robbery. Further charges will now be considered.

They have been remanded in custody and are next due to appear in Christchurch District Court on March 17.
One neighbour said her partner returned home about 9.30pm and heard yelling and commotion before police arrived.
Another resident, who did not want to be named, said he woke up in the middle of the night to so many police cars that “it looked like daylight” outside.
One said he went out on the street to find officers “running around with guns”.
He told the Herald it was a quiet street and he had experienced no problems in his time living here.
