According to RugbyPass, the 35-year-old is exploring his options — and there’s no shortage of English interest.

Aki, who has become one of the most destructive ball-carriers in world rugby, has racked up 158 appearances for Connacht since arriving from New Zealand in 2014. Born in Auckland to Samoan parents, the former Chiefs midfielder qualified for Ireland on residency grounds and has since earned over 60 caps for Ireland national rugby union team, becoming a central figure in their recent success.

He was a standout performer at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, earning global praise for his relentless carrying and defensive edge, and was later selected for the 2021 British & Irish Lions tour.

However, his 2025 Six Nations campaign was derailed before it began. Aki has missed Ireland’s opening three fixtures after receiving a ban for “verbal abuse and disrespect” towards match officials during Connacht’s United Rugby Championship defeat to Leinster Rugby in January.

Despite that setback, his stock remains high.

Newcastle are believed to be desperate for a marquee signing to reignite their midfield, while Leicester Tigers and Saracens are both in the market for an experienced inside centre.

Aki’s experience, physicality and leadership would make him an instant impact signing in the Premiership — and with his contract winding down, a summer switch is firmly on the table.

Whether Connacht can convince their talisman to stay or England wins the race for one of rugby’s most battle-hardened centres remains to be seen.
