The second half of 9-1-1 Season 9 has given Ryan Guzman‘s character Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz a rare moment of peace after months of chaos. From dating his late wife’s doppelgänger to losing his son and becoming the target of a cult member, Eddie’s life has rarely been stable. However, that turbulence has yet to translate into a lasting romantic relationship — something the character arguably needs now that the worst appears to be behind him, at least by 9-1-1 standards. Guzman spoke to Collider’s Maggie Lovitt for a new episode of Collider Behind the Scenes, following Eddie’s recent trip to Nashville. Lovitt asked the actor what he could preview about Eddie’s love life after Guzman previously teased some “sprinkles” of romance in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

While the actor admitted he hopes Eddie eventually finds love, he stopped short of confirming anything concrete. Guzman explained:

“You know what? I’m hesitant to say anything because I want it to happen so bad. I think Eddie deserves love and just like groundedness in a partner. But I don’t write the show, and the show keeps me on my toes just as much as you guys. So, yeah, I don’t want to promise anything that I can’t deliver with.”

The latest storyline briefly teased that possibility when Abigail (Fallon Heaslip), a patient from a past case, re-entered Eddie’s life. The situation led Eddie to work with a SMART therapist, Alex (Aimeé Teegarden), to help stabilize Abigail. The two appeared to share some chemistry, initially believing it was the reason they had been targeted. However, the situation ultimately turned out to be a misunderstanding, closing the door on a potential romantic development — at least for now. Given the nature of broadcast storytelling, the storyline could easily be revisited in future episodes or quietly left behind.

Daylight Saving Time — The Collider Movie Quiz!

Daylight Saving Time starts this weekend. Before we lose an hour of sleep, here’s a quiz about movie titles that contain Daylight, Saving, or Time.

What’s On the Horizon for Eddie in ‘9-1-1’ Season 9?

Next week’s episode raises the stakes in a completely different way — by putting Eddie’s best friend in danger. A newly released promo shows Buck (Oliver Stark) and Eddie joking around in the car before suddenly crashing after being rear-ended. When Eddie wakes up in the hospital, Buck has vanished. The good news is that Buck isn’t dead. The bad news is that he has been kidnapped. Given their close bond, Eddie is unlikely to take the situation lightly. With his military background, anyone responsible for Buck’s disappearance may have underestimated how far Eddie is willing to go to bring his friend home.

New episodes of 9-1-1 air on ABC on Thursdays. Stay with Collider for more updates. Check out our latest episode of Collider Behind the Scenes below.
