A new Canadian app is helping consumers find where groceries cost less.
Gofer.run, which is available on Apple and Android devices, says it compares prices across grocery stores in a shopper’s neighbourhood to show where a grocery list costs the least.
“Unlike traditional flyer apps or store-specific tools, gofer.run analyzes each item on a user’s list and calculates the lowest total grocery bill based on the number of stores a shopper is willing to visit,” a media release said.
“For example, if ketchup is on a list, the app pulls ketchup products from multiple stores and compares prices by unit — such as per 100 grams or 100 millilitres — allowing shoppers to quickly see which option delivers the best value.”
The app evaluates each item in a grocery list and shows the user where they would get the best value.
“Users can choose to shop entirely at one store and still see savings compared to their usual store, or allow the app to optimize additional savings by visiting multiple stores,” the release said.
If an item isn’t the lowest price on its own, the list is optimized overall for the whole list based on the number of stores that are selected, the release added.
Other features in the app include flyer browsing and price-matching lists, photo search to compare prices while shopping in-store, a tool that coverts handwritten lists to digital ones, and saved grocery lists for recurring shopping trips.

Canadian products also feature a maple leaf icon.
“In these turbulent times with rising grocery prices, Gofer.run was born out of a passion to provide a vital tool that helps families save money and simplify their grocery planning,” said Mark Sherry, Gofer.run’s co-founder and president.
Gofer.run said that families willing to shop at more than one store can save possibly up to hundreds of dollars per month.
The app is free to download and is currently only available in English.
