This Standing Mate ergonomic chair is as innovative as it is bizarre. Designed by Chinese furniture brand Newtral, it features a sort of tongue that lays on the floor.

The idea is that you can stand on the tongue, and your body weight anchors the chair in place, allowing you to use it in novel ways:

Now that is some outside-of-the-box thinking. Regardless of whether or not it succeeds on the market, it’s an example of original thinking from a Chinese manufacturer; more companies like this will help the country shed their old rep.

The Standing Mate is up for pre-order at $237 a pop. They expect to ship in April.
