It’s the end of an era — a very, very long era.

The 2025-2026 movie awards season is over. Now what? Well, as a start and a finish, on this week’s episode of IndieWire’s “Screen Talk” podcast, co-hosts Anne Thompson and Ryan Lattanzio recap the 98th Academy Awards from both behind the scenes and in front of the television set.

Anne was on the ground at both the Dolby Theatre and at the Governors Awards and Neon’s famously beloved Oscar night party. Meanwhile, Ryan was… at home, in Brooklyn, with takeout, updating the winners list. But both viewpoints offer a unique perspective on what went down on and off the screen, where “One Battle After Another” won Best Picture after a late-breaking, tight race against “Sinners.” Both were Warner Bros. movies, and the studio went home with arms full that night, including on behalf of “Weapons” star Amy Madigan’s Best Supporting Actress win.

Speaking of Madigan, we look ahead at what all these winners (and some of these losers) are up to. Jessie Buckley’s got an Alice Rohrwacher movie coming up. Ryan Coogler is getting back to “Black Panther 3” and his “X-Files” reboot, which will be shot by historic cinematography winner Autumn Durald Arkapaw. The “KPOP Demon Hunters” team is starting on a sequel (that Netflix would do well to put in theaters). And Sean Penn is in Ukraine. Meanwhile, what does Timothée Chalamet have to do now that his Oscar campaign (and reputation with it) nosedived? Normally, recede, but he has “Dune: Part Three” to start promoting.

We also preview what’s next for Joachim Trier (nothing on the books yet), Ludwig Göransson (this summer’s “The Odyssey” from Christopher Nolan), and Michael B. Jordan (he’s directing “The Thomas Crown Affair” with Aubrey Plaza and Adria Arjona). Plus, we’re both excited about Martin Scorsese’s new gothic marriage story, “What Happens at Night,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.
