A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson said three fire trucks and a water tanker are currently in attendance.
Crews remain at the scene and are working to make sure the fire does not spread to neighbouring homes.
The spokesperson said the fire is yet to be extinguished, but it remains under control.
Fire and Emergency NZ received no reports of injury, and no one was at home at the time.
Images of the scene showed thick black smoke rising above the beachside community, which is densely covered in trees.
