Homestay Week continued on Tuesday’s episode of Married At First Sight.

Groom Danny Hewitt turned on a charm offensive, appearing to win the approval of his wife Bec Zacharia’s family in Adelaide.

But progress in the relationship was quickly undone over a poorly timed joke from Danny about Bec’s cousin Danielle.

The pair were seen sharing a quiet moment over an open fire, discussing their future, just before the drama erupted.

UK-born Melbourne-based Danny confessed at one point that he had really appreciated being welcomed so warmly by Bec’s family.

‘One thing I’ve never told you in the past, because I have no family out here, when I’m with a partner, I take their family on as my own,’ he said.

‘So honestly, it means the world to me, and I really wanted to thank you for that.’

Known as a jokester, Bec appeared caught off guard but pleased by Danny’s vulnerable moment.

‘If my family felt the need to have hard conversations with you, they would,’ Bec said, adding: ‘But you give them a sense of comfort and stability that you give me.’

It was at this point that Danny changed the mood with an off-colour jest that triggered a fit of temper from his notoriously fiery bride.

‘I think obviously because Danielle fancied me, she didn’t want to [say anything],’ he joked.

Sensing Bec’s discomfort, Danny tried to backtrack: ‘That’s gone down like a lead balloon.’

Tensions quickly escalated as Bec complained that Danny had ‘diminished’ her with the joke about her cousin.

Danny’s complaint that he joked ’24/7′ fell on deaf ears.

'This relationship is serious for me, so when he is making a mockery of the situation we are in, it p***es me off,' she said

‘This relationship is serious for me, so when he is making a mockery of the situation we are in, it p***es me off,’ she said

‘There’s a time for seriousness and a time for jokes, and you should be able to say something nice and be genuine and [not say] “your cousin wants to f***me”,’ she whined.

‘I’m actually a bit mind blown,’ Danny reflected in his interview later.

Recalling Bec’s bad ‘fingerbanging’ joke at the retreat, Danny said he had gone against the group in defence of his bride.

‘It’s so frustrating,’ he complained, confessing that he felt uncomfortable and did not want to be alone with Bec with the whole drama, leaving him unsure about their relationship.

Meanwhile, Bec vented her own frustrations about the way Danny managed their relationship.

‘This relationship is serious for me, so when he is making a mockery of the situation we are in, it p***es me off,’ she said in her debrief session.

Bec also discussed her own insecurities.

‘It’s those moments when he doesn’t take things seriously that I second-guess. What if he’s not into me? I might end up looking like a fool, grasping on to those tiny bits of seriousness,’ she said.

Bec stormed off, declaring: ‘I’m done!’ while Danny confessed, ‘I don’t want to be with her right now.’
