A person was then seen being carried to a rescue helicopter, which landed in a nearby paddock.
Police said the Serious Crash Unit attended and inquiries into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
Hato Hone St John said it responded with one helicopter, one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle.
The spokesperson said one person was assessed at the scene and has been transported to Auckland City Hospital by helicopter in a serious condition.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand told the Herald two crews attended the crash.
The spokesperson said they helped remove the person trapped in the vehicle and placed them in the care of St John.
