Framework joins KDE as a patron, funding and advising to improve the Linux desktop experience.

Framework gains an advisory seat to help align KDE with Framework users and hardware.

Framework joins major donors to support KDE and promote repairable, sustainable hardware.

Whether you like swapping out hardware or tweaking what apps your PC has, there’s a certain joy in having a computer you can truly customize. However, if you want to go all-in on a laptop you can make truly yours, you can do a lot worse than grabbing a Framework laptop and putting Linux on it. Framework builds modular laptops that let you swap parts out as you need them, and Linux hands you the reins on how the software on your device works.

If you think that sounds like a match made in heaven, then you’re right; so right, in fact, that Framework has become an official KDE Patron.

As announced on the KDE blog, Framework has joined the KDE patron list to help the Linux desktop environment flourish. Framework users often gravitate toward KDE, so it’s only natural that the two companies would unite to help users get even more out of both. KDE will receive funding from Framework, and Framework will have a place on the advisory board where it can help direct KDE to enhance its own products and give Framework customers a better experience using the desktop environment.

Nirav Patel, Founder of Framework, is naturally very pleased with being a part of KDE:

“KDE is extremely popular in the Framework community, and we’re excited to help support KDE’s efforts to make the best possible Linux desktop.”

Similarly, Aleix Pol, President of KDE e.V., sounds very happy to allow Framework onto the patron list:

“I am excited to see Framework become a KDE Patron. It’s a good continuation to our collaboration with different hardware manufacturers and distributors to ensure we can deliver systems to our users with an experience up to our expectations. Furthermore, Framework’s commitment to repairability strongly aligns with our values and is vital for building a more sustainable industry.”

Framework’s patronage places it alongside other donors such as Blue Systems, Canonical, g10 Code, Google, Kubuntu Focus, Mbition, Rocky Linux, Slimbook, SUSE, Techpaladin, The Qt Company, and TUXEDO Computers.
