With 25 years of experience, local advisor and Colonel Crawford resident Brian McConnell has launched McConnell Wealth Management to provide independent, holistic financial planning and investment services to families across Crawford County.
BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—After more than two decades working in finance, a local advisor decided it was time to take a leap and build something of his own. About a year ago, he launched McConnell Wealth Management, an independent financial planning and investment advisory service focused on helping individuals and families throughout Crawford County and the surrounding area plan for their financial future.
With approximately 25 years of experience in the financial industry and 18 years as a licensed advisor, McConnell spent much of his career working within the banking sector. Over time, he realized he wanted the flexibility to work more directly with clients and guide them in ways that truly fit their individual goals.
Starting his own firm gave him the opportunity to do just that.
Today, McConnell Wealth Management offers a range of services designed to help clients navigate important financial decisions. These include investment and portfolio management, retirement planning, financial planning, tax planning, and estate planning. McConnell also works closely with clients’ accountants and tax professionals to help ensure financial decisions align with long-term strategies and tax considerations.
While investment management is a major focus, McConnell says financial planning often goes beyond simply choosing where to invest money.
“It’s really a holistic approach,” he explained. “It’s not always just about investments. Sometimes it’s about what loans someone should pay off or when it makes sense to pay taxes on certain investments. Those decisions can have a big impact over time.”
In many cases, tax planning can be just as important as investment returns, since paying unnecessary taxes can significantly reduce long-term growth.
Originally from Attica, McConnell attended Ashland University and now lives in the Colonel Crawford school district, where he and his wife Magdalena are raising their five children. Magdalena works alongside him in the business as the Operations Manager, helping oversee the day-to-day operations of the firm.
Family values also play a large role in how McConnell approaches his work. His parents own an excavating business, where he spent many years working alongside his father.
“My parents own an excavating business, and I grew up working alongside my dad, learning my values from him,” McConnell said. “Excavating is hard work—it requires a strong work ethic to get the job done—but it also takes honesty and integrity to build a reputation like theirs. The values instilled in me by my parents and grandparents are the reason I chose to carry our family name into my own business, McConnell Wealth Management.”
The couple stays active in the community as well. Magdalena serves as treasurer for the local PTO, and McConnell has spent time coaching youth football in the past. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus and attends Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where he serves on the Finance Council and participates on several committees. McConnell also supports and works with a number of local non-profit organizations throughout the area.
For McConnell, working with clients in smaller communities like Crawford County is especially meaningful.
“A lot of people simply don’t know what they don’t know when it comes to financial planning,” he said. “Helping guide someone and seeing them realize they can actually achieve their goals—whether that’s retirement or something else—is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.”
McConnell also encourages people to start thinking about their financial future early.
“Start early, and if you didn’t start early, start as soon as you can,” he said. “Don’t wait until you are ready to retire to begin planning for retirement.”
Above all, McConnell says his goal is to offer transparency and honest guidance to every client he works with.
“My focus is always on what’s in the best interest of my client,” he said.
