The Hawkes are desperate for dry ground for Briasa and have said he won’t run if the track is rain-affected.
“He came around the corner, at the 300m he smoked up and I thought, ‘We’re in here, we’re home’. If you look at him at the 400m I thought he was going better than the winner, Joliestar, but he just didn’t let down on the wet going,” co-trainer Wayne Hawkes told SEN following the T.J. Smith Stakes.
“People will say, ‘hang on, he’s won on the heavy and has wet track form’. The difference is, you’re racing horses when you’re on the way up and it was at Kembla Grange when he won on a wet track.
“We won’t be running him on a wet track again.”
Sydney’s forecast this week is glorious, with warm weather and sunshine predicted up until race day, but that, of course, can change.
Briasa’s likely rivals in the All Aged include Jimmysstar, Giga Kick, Fangirl, Angel Capital, Beiwacht, Magic Time and Half Yours.
