According to data from the South Kivu Provincial Health Division (DPS) Friday, 4,607 cases of cholera were reported in South Kivu in the first quarter of 2026, including 67 deaths in the province.

Officials say the most affected health zones are Fizi, Ruzizi, Nundu, Uvira and the city of Bukavu.

According to Jean-Claude Kulondwa, focal point of the National Cholera Elimination Program in South Kivu, these deaths are linked to the disruption of treatment inputs in certain areas.

He indicates that to contain this disease, the Provincial Health Division is prioritizing several actions, including medical care in accordance with national policy.
