Qantas’ QF4 service from New York to Sydney via Auckland operates using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and is one of the longest scheduled commercial flights in the world.
The first leg typically takes between 16-17 hours to complete before a short stopover in Auckland, with the second leg to Sydney taking between three to four hours.
Flight data shows the plane left Auckland Airport on its second leg to Sydney just after 8am, one-and-a-half hours after the scheduled departure.
Auckland Airport declined to comment when approached.
