Though Sarah Ferguson and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Duke and Duchess of York have been divorced since 1996, they’ve continued to cohabitate, most notably at Royal Lodge, a mansion on the Windsor Great Park Estate. However, since Mountbatten-Windsor surrendered his titles and honors at the end of October, the couple was asked to give up their lease on the property and find other accommodations. Mountbatten-Windsor just moved, and now we have some insight about where the former Duchess will live: Speaking to People, a source close to Ferguson suggested that she was looking for “a place in Windsor.”

Earlier speculation suggested that she’d move into an annex of the Oxfordshire mansion owned by her daughter Princess Beatrice and son-in-law, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, along with their two daughters, Sienna and Elizabeth. A spokesperson for the Duchess noted that Sarah is looking at a “number of options currently, and no final decision has been made.”

There was previous discussion that she might move, at least part time, to the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club in Melides, Portugal, where the former Duke and Duchess’s younger daughter, Princess Eugenie, lives with her own family. Though the Princess, her husband—businessman Jack Brooksbank—and their two sons, August and Ernest also have a lease on Ivy Cottage, a charming home on the grounds of Kensington Palace in London, they have spent most of their time in Portugal since 2022 for Brooksbank’s work.

Following additional revelations about both Ferguson and her husband in the Jeffrey Epstein files released at the end of January, Mountbatten-Windsor left Royal Lodge on February 4, 2026. However, it’s been widely reported that Ferguson will not move in with her ex-husband. For both, the move means that their housing will no longer be subsidized by tax payers.

In April 2026, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor officially moved into Marsh Farm, which is owned by King Charles on the family’s Sandringham Estate just north of Norwich. The former prince’s new abode is a far cry from the 30-room Royal Lodge. The new house is believed to have just eight rooms, including five bedrooms, though it’s quick walk from the sea and the property’s sprawling gardens. Sarah Ferguson is not expected to move in with her husband.

Royal Lodge has been a royal residence since the mid-19th century, and it was occupied by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, until her death in 2002. Mountbatten-Windsor moved there in 2004, and Ferguson joined him in 2008. The couple also previously owned a ski chalet in Verbier, Switzerland. They bought it in 2014 for $23 million and sold it for an undisclosed sum in 2021.
