Apple’s next iPhones will be released in September, it’s thought. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to look broadly similar to the current models with one big change: the colors.

While there have been Pro updates which have kept the identical hues to the previous models, that’s not expected to happen this time — to the disappointment of those who’ve fallen in love with Cosmic Orange and want to stick with it next time.

The New Signature Color: Dark Cherry Replaces Cosmic Orange

So, what will replace Cosmic Orange, and will you love it?

Obviously, I can’t answer the second part of that, but, according to Macworld, four colors are under consideration by Apple. Currently, there are three color options available for the iPhone 17 Pro, and Apple almost always has either three or four options at launch for its Pro models (and very occasionally an extra color launching six months later).

The hero color, it had been previously reported, could be dark red. “the information we’ve heard suggests that Apple has been working on a Dark Cherry option to serve as the headline new color for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max,” Macworld said.

The publication’s source had more details, giving a steer as to what this might look like. “Previously, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and other leakers had suggested that Apple has been experimenting with a shade of red for this year’s phones, but we can reveal the hue will be much closer to wine than fruit punch,” it said.

This sounds like a return to the demure and understated hues which Apple plumped for before the orange hue in the latest generation.

As for the other shades in contention, these are said to be Light Blue, Dark Gray and Silver. There have already been suggestions that there won’t be a black Pro model in the coming range, but the Dark Gray may substitute for that.

While the design is expected to mostly mimic the iPhone 17 Pro, there are rumors that the gap between the glass cutout on the back and the camera bump is smaller. As with other details, everything is subject to change until mass production of the new iPhones begins, which is expected to be soon.
