Another familiar voice has signed off on Houston radio. 93Q Country is searching for a new midday host after Gerardo Sproet exited the role, with news of his departure announced over the weekend.
A Houston native, Sproet spent his entire radio career with KKBQ. He joined the station’s promotions department in 2019, moved on-air in 2022 and was promoted to evening host in July 2023. In January 2025, he shifted to middays, taking over a slot that had gone without a permanent host since Corey Dillon left in October 2024 after three and a half years.
Now, the station is already looking for his replacement. In a newly posted job listing, 93Q says it wants a host who “will be fun, compelling, talented, professional and understand how to create great radio in a PPM-friendly environment.”
Sproet acknowledged the change in a Facebook post that quickly drew reaction from listeners, many of whom said they were stunned to hear he was gone.
“What????? Nooooooo I liked listening to you my radio stayed on 92.9 while you were on,” one commenter wrote.
“This can’t be for real. He was the best on there. Im gonna miss him,” another added.
“Will miss hearing you on the radio! but bigger things will be coming your way!” a third person wrote.
Chron has reached out to Sproet for comment.
KKBQ, branded as 93Q Country and “Houston’s Country Leader,” is one of the city’s best-known country stations. Licensed to Pasadena and serving the Greater Houston area, the Urban One-owned outlet broadcasts on 92.9 FM and has won multiple ACM Radio Station of the Year honors.
Sproet’s exit is the latest shakeup in Houston country radio this year. Earlier this month, morning duo Frito & Katy was removed from 100.3 The Bull after about 15 months on the air.
