Fire and Emergency northern shift manager Paul Radden said a car and a truck had crashed and two fire crews, from Greerton and Tauranga City, were attending.
The NZ Transport Agency said SH29 was closed between SH28 and Poripori Rd until further notice, and motorists should allow extra time.
The detour route for westbound traffic is as follows:
From SH29 turn right onto SH28, turn left onto SH5, turn left to continue onto SH36, turn right onto Taui St, turn left onto Wikaraka St, turn left to stay on Wikaraka St, turn right onto SH36, continue straight to rejoin SH29.
Eastbound traffic should follow the above route in reverse.
