Nearly two weeks ago, Spider-Man fever took over the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace during Sony’s presentation when the studio gave attendees a multitude of updates surrounding specific projects from the ever-expanding Spider-Verse. IGN shared an official new look at Amazon MGM and Sony’s Spider-Noir, including confirmation of 4 major Spider-Man villains. Slated for a premiere on MGM+ in the US on May 25 followed by a Prime Video global release on May 27, a fresh trailer has hit the interweb following its debut at the event.
The new footage for Nicolas Cage‘s Spidey series officially unveils who the gritty detective known as Ben Reilly will be fighting, many of whom will be making their live-action debut in the new show. First up is the show’s central antagonist, Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson) — a ruthless crime boss who will be the big bad of Reilly journey. Silvermane’s right-hand man appears to be none other than Flint Marko, AKA Sandman, who, according to actor Jack Huston, is a true “anti-hero” whose sandy condition is slowly killing him. Then there’s the nearly unstoppable enforcer known as Tombstone (Abraham Popoola), which means 2026 will have two completely different takes on the fan-favorite villain. Popoola will be the character’s live-action TV debut, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be his live-action movie debut with Marvin Jones III (who also voiced the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). Finally, the new teaser also reveals the identity of the electric-based hero whom many fans reasonably assumed to be Electro, but he’s actually none other than the deep-cut Spider-Man villain, Megawatt (Andrew Caldwell).
For those who find they’ve been out of the loop, the series will follow Nicolas Cage’s Ben Reilly, a struggling private detective living amongst the crime-laden streets of 1930s New York City. In his heyday, Ben was known by his foes as the Spider — the city’s only superhero. He’s since retired the mask and the powers, but when a special case comes across his desk, he’ll need to suit up for one more adventure. In addition to Cage, who will make his character move from the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse into the world of live-action, the new series also features the talents of Li Jun Li (Sinners), Lamorne Morris (New Girl), and Karen Rodriguez (The Hunting Wives).

Meet the Team Behind ‘Spider-Noir’
After striking gold as the producers behind both Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal are at it again as co-developers of the upcoming Prime Video series. Additionally, The Lost City and The Cloverfield Paradox writer Oren Uziel also developed the production alongside The Punisher and Hannibal scribe Steve Lightfoot, with both also joining as co-showrunners of the series.
While Spider-Noir might be the next Spider-centered material to come from Sony, it’s certainly not the last. Fans everywhere are on the edge of their seats for more looks to come from Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will put Tom Holland back in the suit following the massive global box office success of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Beyond that, the conclusion will finally come for the animated film series when Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse swings into cinemas next summer on June 18. Considering how long fans have been waiting for the story of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) to round out, we’re already seeing plenty of dollar signs at the box office for the grand finale.
