My Secret Auckland: Katie Richebœuf shares her favourite spots in the city

  • April 25, 2026

Dulcie, Devonport have the best smoked cheddar scone and the Cacio Pepe hash brown is out of this world.

Best restaurant for dinner with friends?

I love Olle in Milford for its delicious Korean fusion sharing plates, the crispy eggplant is standout. It has a quietly elegant atmosphere while still feeling relaxed.

The place to take a visitor to?

We often take visitors to the Matakana Village Farmers’ Market, picking up a few treats to share together. I love fossicking through the bric-a-brac part of the market too.

Best spot to finish a night out?

Bare Wine on Brown St is a gem. Romain and Bertrand welcome you in and once seated among the wine bottles, it feels like you’ve been transported into a Parisian wine bar.

Best coffee?

Stone Oven in Devonport is my morning go-to. Dani makes the best flat white while we chat about the day ahead.

Favourite fish-and-chip shop?

Mine is Mairangi Bay Fisheries right near the beach. Once you’ve eaten fish and chips from there it’s hard to go anywhere else. You just have to watch the seagulls don’t steal your chips.

Hiking trail?

If we are staying local, we love beachcombing and rock scrambling at low tide along the coastline from Takapuna to Cheltenham Beach, finishing with the climb up Maungauika (North Head). You can’t beat the view from up there.

Venue for a gig?

For me it’s more about the artist who’s playing. One of the first gigs I went to was Supergroove playing at the Powerstation, so returning there is always nostalgic. It’s an iconic venue.

Best spot for a bargain?

The tiny St Georges Church Market Shop in Hauraki is a pocket‑sized treasure trove spilling out on to the pavement. I always find a bargain there.

Katie Richeboeuf is the Gallery Manager at DEPOT Devonport, which this year celebrates 30 years of art and community. See what’s on at depot.org.nz.
