The survival thriller Fall was a significant sleeper success, grossing over $21 million at the global box office on a reported budget of $3 million, before becoming a massive hit on streaming. Its performance prompted producers to turn the vertigo-inducing feature into a franchise with not one, but two sequels. The first, aptly titled Fall 2, is coming this summer, and an exciting new action shot has given audiences a better idea of what to expect from the follow-up. The image teases another hair-raising, pulse-pounding thrill ride that sees its lead protagonists take on a daring new challenge, significantly upping the ante from the 2022 film.

While the first film featured a 2,000-foot radio tower, the sequel moves to the mountains of Taipei, where two friends attempt a daring “plank walk” on Mount Kwan to find closure after the tragedy of the first film, which saw Shiloh Hunter (Virginia Gardner) fall to her death. What starts out as a celebration of life quickly turns into a fight for survival, as things – naturally – go wrong.
Suspended at 3,000 feet, the two adventurers are shown navigating a steep, rocky cliff face with climbing aids and a rickety wooden platform. The franchise shifts focus to a new set of characters, two of which are featured in the first image – Jax (Harriet Slater), the grieving sister of Hunter, and Luce (Arsema Thomas), the fearless friend who suggests the high-adrenaline activity in her memory. However, they face a crisis when a sudden rockslide leaves them stranded on a fragile plank high above the ground with no way down.
As well as a new cast, Fall 2 has a new directing team. Michael and Peter Spierig, the sibling duo behind Jigsaw and Predestination, took over from original writer-director Scott Mann, who returned to co-write the script with Jonathan Frank. Given that the sequel is part of a planned trilogy, it is likely that the plot will end on a cliffhanger (pun intended) or set up a larger threat for the third installment, which Mann is expected to return for – in both of his former roles, ensuring that the creative vision is consistent across all three films.
Fall 2 is scheduled for a theatrical release on Aug. 7, 2026, positioning it as a major summer blockbuster, opening against Eli Roth’s Ice Cream Man, as well as Super Troopers 3. The team behind the sequel will no doubt be hoping to replicate the surprise success of its predecessor. The film looks to be utilizing the same formula by unraveling a survival story at an extreme height. Critics lauded the intense theater experience that Fall provided, with many highlighting the impressive cinematography and immersive camera work as the key to the film’s success in racking up the tension in a relatively simple, albeit slightly absurd, premise.
