It’s shaping up to be a big night for Beyoncé — she’s co-chairing the Met Gala and will probably wear something spectacular to her first appearance at the event in a decade. But the Beyhive suspects she has something even bigger cooking: specifically her long-awaited Act III. Is Beyoncé really using fashion’s big night as a new album launchpad? Let’s examine the evidence.

First things first: Since the release of Renaissance in 2022 and Cowboy Carter in 2024, fans have theorized the final installation of Beyoncé’s trilogy would reclaim another musical genre with roots in Black culture, like the first album did with disco and the second with country. Though Beyoncé has confirmed next to nothing about this still-unannounced album, the leading hypothesis is that it will be a rock album.

Though rumors that a rock-themed Act III flare up every so often, they’ve reached a fever pitch ahead of the 2026 Met Gala. For one thing, a 2026 release would match the two-year gap Bey left between Act I and Act II. But the biggest hint came last week, when she cleared almost all the Cowboy Carter–era country imagery from her website and added an old clip of Destiny’s Child with Stevie Nicks.

There’s also the fact that Beyoncé has been unusually active on social media lately. Last week, she posted a whole carousel of photos in a dramatic purple gown, which some have speculated could be a nod to Prince. Days earlier, she shared a tribute to Destiny’s Child for the 25th anniversary of their third album, Survivor, fueling rumors that she’s teasing a potential reunion. She’s also been plugging her hair-care line, Cécred, and the brand’s Instagram shared a promotional video on Sunday of the products — three of them, mind you — ascending the steps of the Met Gala.

So is a new Beyoncé album coming our way? At least one person who might know a thing or two about it says “no.” Last week after a fan account posted some very unconfirmed claims that the Met Gala “officially begins the era” and that the album would come out sometime this summer, Beyoncé’s publicist Yvette Noel-Schure replied to the tweet, calling it “unequivocally false.” So maybe we’re all way off base here and this is just hyping us up for a new hair-product release. Until then, I’m ready to rock.
