The theme for the Met Gala this year was simple: Fashion is Art AND protect Julianne Moore at all costs.
You didn’t read that? Perhaps it was just on Tom Ford’s VIP invite.
Hollywood’s elite descended on the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC showcasing their most daring and dazzling looks on the beige and green carpet. However, the glamorous evening was momentarily hijacked when an unexpected intruder attempted to storm the VIP area, sparking chaos.
According to reports, an anti-Jeff Bezos protester rushed towards the entry.
According to an onlooker, the uninvited guest “pushed his way through the crowd of fans and press” behind a steel barrier on the east side of Fifth Avenue. He reportedly leapt over the first of two steel barriers and sprinted through traffic before police stepped in and arrested him – just 20-feet from some big-name stars posing for photographs.
Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie was spotted nearby as chaos unfolded, as was US designer Tom Ford, who fiercely jumped in to protect actress Julianne Moore during the incident.
The pair arrived together and had their pictures taken before Ford realised what was happening and decided to take on the role of Moore’s unofficial bodyguard.
“Tom instinctively put his arms around Julianne to protect her,” a witness told Page Six.
“He was only about 20 feet away from them.”
It’s true what they say about not all heroes wearing capes. Some wear a dashing black tux and smell impeccable (I imagine; he’s never tried to protect me on a red carpet so I can’t confirm).
While plenty of big names hit the Met Gala this year – including Kim Kardashian, Sabrina Carpenter, Anne Hathaway, Beyonce, Nicole Kidman (with daughter Sunday Rose), Blake Lively, and more – a handful of celebrities opted to boycott the event amid Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ financial backing.
The glam bash was overshadowed by intense backlash and protests after Bezos and his wife Lauren Sánchez, became lead sponsors and honorary co-chairs following a reported US $10 million donation.
Zendaya, Meryl Streep and Bella Hadid were among a few names who reportedly skipped the event because of their move.
Bezos’ wife had reportedly already walked the red carpet and was safely inside the event when the protester attempted to storm the VIP area.
