Maltese entrepreneur Elenya Spiteri has made it to the AmCham EU finals of the Youth Entrepreneurship Award.
This award recognises young innovators from across Europe for their entrepreneurial vision and commitment to sustainability.
Now in its 14th edition, the award celebrates young entrepreneurs whose projects address major societal and environmental challenges through innovation and purpose-driven leadership.
According to the organisers, the finalists were selected through a competitive evaluation process involving applicants from across Europe, with the winner set to be revealed during AmCham EU’s Gala Evening on 12th June.
Elenya Spiteri, who is leading the development of the company, said the project is being guided from prototype stage towards becoming a market-ready healthcare solution.
According to the company, the idea behind Medilert was inspired by Spiteri’s grandparents’ experience with managing complex medication schedules. The company stated that this experience motivated a focus on creating ethical and accessible technology aimed at supporting vulnerable individuals and improving care delivery.
Medilert is developing a smart medication management system aimed at helping older adults manage their medication routines more safely and efficiently, while also offering caregivers greater peace of mind.
The company explained that its solution combines an automated pill dispenser with app-based monitoring and voice-enabled reminders designed to ensure that medication is taken at the correct time. According to Medilert, caregivers are able to set dosage schedules, monitor adherence and receive real-time updates through the system.
The company said that users benefit from accessible voice alerts and a simplified medication routine intended to make daily medication management easier. Medilert added that the technology is designed to reduce the risk of missed doses and accidental double dosing, two issues that continue to present challenges in elderly care.
Elenya Spiteri said she was “incredibly proud and honoured” to have been selected as a finalist for the 2026 AmCham EU and JA Europe Youth Entrepreneurship Award.
Spiteri stated that beginning her journey as a 19-year-old entrepreneur had been both the most challenging and rewarding experience of her life. She added that the experience had taught her valuable lessons about resilience, innovation and the importance of persistence.
“Being recognised among the top three finalists is a huge milestone, but more importantly, it gives me a platform to amplify a mission that is close to my heart. My goal is to ensure our elderly remain active, supported, and valued members of our communities, while providing true peace of mind to their families and caregivers,” she wrote on Facebook.
One of the other finalists is Marija Ručevska, one of Outlast Fund’s co-founders, who is described as an entrepreneur and investor with ten years of experience in company-building and start-up support.
Outlast Fund is investing in early-stage technology companies across the Baltics and Nordics, with a focus on supporting founders developing innovative solutions in emerging sectors.
The other finalist is Bora Selenica, who leads Pigi business development and who was described as having experience in financial education through work carried out with JA Europe.
Pigi has developed a family-focused financial education mobile application designed to help children between the ages of five and 14 build healthy money habits from an early age.
