Fire Country season 4 is officially over—and Max Thieriot has something to say about where the show is going next.
The hit CBS drama is famous for dropping curveballs every Friday night, and the last episode of the current installment was no exception. With Bode Leone (played by Max) racing to save someone from his past, Edgewater facing disaster after a water dam breaks, and Station 42 recruiting the Three Rock inmates to help save the day, it seems our favorite first responders just can’t catch a break.
But fans were quite surprised at the end of it all, as the show took a turn no one saw coming. Not only was everyone saved amid a major catastrophe, but Bode also seemed to have a clear idea of what his future could look like. What’s more, he and his fellow firefighters got to see their friend Jake Crawford (Jordan Calloway) tie the knot with Violet (Nesta Cooper), leaving Fire Country with an unexpected lack of a cliffhanger going into season 5.

Max had some thoughts about that when catching up with Good Housekeeping ahead of the finale. As the actor, who is also the Fire Country co-creator and executive producer, shared, he saw this move as a chance for Fire Country to try something new as it heads into season 5.
“The show has ended each season on these heavy character moments, where everyone’s like, oh my gosh—now what?” he told Good Housekeeping on May 19. “Now we get to enter this new season with things going OK, and it gives us, in a way, a fun look at what the characters are looking forward to in the next chapter of their lives. We’re not bound to certain things anymore, and we can reset going into the season and dive into new stories with new characters and so much stuff.”
While Fire Country season 5 is still a few months away, it’s interesting to think that the finale set the stage for what’s next. After all, it looks like Bode has a new outlook on life, moving on from Vince’s (Billy Burke) death, building a better bond with his mom, Sharon (Diane Farr), and even entering a relationship with Chloe Mackenzie (Alona Tal).
Max also teased what fans can expect from his character in Fire Country season 5.
“With this new reset, it was important for Bode to close certain chapters and move forward,” he added. “Things are good for him, and I think it allows Bode the opportunity to take those steps and become the firefighter he’s potentially destined to be. And even though he’s trying to fill the shoes of his late dad, they’re two different men. Vince had the respect of Edgewater, while Bode burned bridges when he left. I think he has to earn everybody’s trust now and have this journey to become that guy.”
We should also be prepared for some unexpected developments for Station 42 when Fire Country returns to the air this fall.
“I’m excited to see what evolution those at Station 42 will embark on,” he noted. “It’s not just a new chief coming in—it’s seeing a lot of the camaraderie we don’t always get in the station, including how the firefighters live together in a fun way.”
“We’re just looking at everyone who’s looking at the next stages in their lives, and there are a lot of really cool and exciting stories for each character,” he concluded. “There are some emotional arcs this coming season, and I can’t wait for it.”
