Wellington Water is warning locals there is a risk of sewage leaking from its Moa Point wastewater plant during heavy rain next week.
The water agency said untreated wastewater could be discharged through the short outfall pipe into Tarakena Bay without warning during the heavy rain expected on Monday and Thursday.
The Moa Point wastewater treatment Plant flooded in February, limiting how much its long outfall pipe can pump.
Wellington Water advised people not to swim in the rain or for a couple of days afterwards.
It reminded locals that Tarakena Bay remains a no-go zone regardless of rain because of its proximity to the short outfall pipe.
