SH1 in Wellington reopens after caravan rolled in northbound lane

State Highway 1, northbound out of Wellington, has reopened after a ute towing a caravan rolled this morning.

Police said it was notified at around 11.30am on Thursday that a ute towing a caravan had overturned just before the Johnsonville Rd off-ramp.

“No injuries have been reported,” a police spokesperson said.

The highway was closed to northbound traffic as emergency services cleared the scene but had since reopened, NZTA Waka Kotahi said.

“Following a prior crash, this section of SH1 has reopened. Road users are advised to expect delays as congestion eases.”

Police thanked motorists for their patience while the road was blocked.
