Reece Walsh has responded to comments from star forward Payne Haas about the Broncos not backing up their talk after their latest loss to the Dragons. The Brisbane Broncos were handed their most embarrassing loss of the season after going down 30-26 to the Dragons.
Payne Haas was scathing of his team’s NRL display having suggested they weren’t backing up their talk on the field. “I don’t know what to say, we were really poor and it was one of the worst performances I’ve been a part of,” Haas said.
“I felt like it was all of us. We had no intent, no energy. I was pretty disappointed. We save it until the last 10 minutes to play our footy. We are all talk at the moment. We keep on saying we are going to do all these important things on the field, but to be honest we are BS-ing each other.”

Maguire was also pictured giving the Broncos a dressing room spray following the defeat. The Broncos have a tough run home to make NRL finals this year with claims they need to win eight of their next 13 games.
However, plenty of these games are against Top 8 sides with the Broncos also missing a number of players through injury and State of Origin. Many felt Haas had every right to call out some of his teammates having returned from injury to play 80 minutes and run for more than 250 metres in the loss.
Walsh is one whose form has dipped in recent weeks having returned from his own injury. Speaking about Haas’ comments, Walsh said it shows the type of leaders the club has within the dressing room and it’s needed right now as they look to bounce back. “
I think it just shows the leadership we have at the club,” Walsh said when asked about the Haas’ post-game comments. “There was a point last year where we were going through the same sort of rollercoaster and having the same conversations. It shows the quality of leader Payne is. He doesn’t leave any stone unturned and he tells you exactly how it is.”
Reece Walsh admits to form dip ahead of Origin selection
Walsh is aiming for an State of Origin recall ahead of Game 2 with the likes of Ezra Mam looking unlikely for a recall. Although Walsh dmitted on Wednesday his form has dripped and he didn’t warrant selection for Game 1.
“I know the standards it takes to play for Queensland and I’m a realist and I’m honest with myself and I haven’t been upholding those standards of a Queensland jersey,” he said. “As a young Queenslander you want to grow up and play for Queensland. To not be named and to get that call is disappointing. (But) that’s what makes it so great. Once you put that jersey on, you know what it takes to get back there.”
